Response to instruction and intervention (RtI) is a framework for providing a system-wide continuum of evidence-based instructional practices and supports to all students and intervention to struggling students in response to academic or behavioral needs. Creating an RtI framework begins with the implementation of a standards-based core curriculum, sound assessment practices, research-based instruction, and supplemental services to ensure that all students achieve high academic standards and social competencies. Progress monitoring and data-based decision-making protocols enable instructional teams to provide prevention supports as early as possible, to make changes in instruction, and to implement evidence-based interventions based on student needs.

The State Support Team Region 1 provides a continuum of support services to Region 1 districts and schools for the implementation of RtI. Resources to guide and support RtI in districts and schools are provided through the following links: Intervention and RtI Web Site Links provide access to a broad range of RtI topics, models, applications, training modules, and resources for all stakeholders; Articles and Publications offer a list of models and applications of RtI; and Tools for Implementation provide links to Web sites containing screening and progress monitoring tools and evidence-based technical reviews of assessment, curricula, and instructional strategies.

The State Support Team also provides RtI professional development and technical assistance to local education agencies that have integrated RtI within the district Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) plan / Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP).
