  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides training, technical assistance as defined by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Office for Exceptional Children (OEC), and the Office of Early Learning and School Readiness (OELSR), and information to district administrators, teachers, related service personnel and parents on the implementation of state and federal laws and regulations. This assistance includes standards-based educational system requirements, IDEA and NCLB and the Operating Standards for Ohio Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities, applicable to the education of all preschool and school age children including those with disabilities and those at risk of being identified as disabled.
  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides technical assistance and guidance to district administrators, teachers, related service providers and parents for the understanding and implementation of preschool special education rules, to include sources of information and appropriate use of assessments for eligibility, and appropriate use of standard deviation and developmental delay and transition of children from Part C to Part B IDEA services.
  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides technical assistance and support to districts involved in department-required special education monitoring, accountability activities, and complaint resolution (e.g. IDEA monitoring, State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR) self-reviews and selective reviews, management assistance reviews, corrective action plans).
  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides technical assistance and department-approved training to district administrators, teachers, and related service providers on effective Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developmemt and implementation, acces to standards-based instruction aligned with grade-level expectations, the effective use of appropriate and allowable testing accommodations for students with disabilities, the modified (2%) assessment and the Standards-Based Alternate Assessment (AA).
  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides department-approved Surrogate Parent training for districts as needed.
  • The State Support Team Region 1 provides information and technical assistance to districts to support accurate and timely submission of EMIS special education data related to all SPP and APR indicators.
