What We Do

State Support Teams are a part of Ohio’s Statewide System of Support, which also includes the Department of Education & Workforce, Educational Service Centers, Information Technology Centers, and professional associations and organizations. 

State Support Team Region 1 (SST 1) staff work closely with these partners to provide resources, coaching, professional development, and technical assistance to public and community school educators as they strive to ensure each child in Ohio has access to a high-quality education.

Who We Serve

SST 1 provides support to educators in 13 northwest Ohio counties, including: Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert, Williams, and Wood.

Region 1 includes:

  • 105 districts and community schools
  • seven educational service centers
  • five career technical education centers
  • 13 boards of developmental disabilities

Ohio’s State Support Teams

Ohio SST mapOhio’s statewide system of support includes 16 regional State Support Teams who use a connected set of tools and resources to improve instructional practice and student performance.

SSTs are responsible for the regional delivery of school improvement, special education, early learning and school readiness, and family involvement services to districts. These services are provided to schools and districts at no cost.

Fiscal Agent

Each State Support Team partners with a fiscal agent who has signed a performance agreement with the Ohio Department of Education.

The fiscal agent for State Support Team 1 is the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West.

Located in Toledo and established in 1913, the ESC of Lake Erie West is one of the largest educational service centers in the state. Sandra C. Frisch is the ESC’s superintendent.
