Ohio (TESOL) Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages is hosting a series of webinars throughout the 2021-22 school year.

On Tuesday, January 18, Rossasna Torres will discuss Disability vs. Difference

One of the greatest challenges in special education is to address the needs of students whose home language is not English. Practitioners in special education face the question: Is this a language difference? Or, is this a language impairment? The answer to this question requires to be knowledgeable of at least the following:

  • Process of acquisition of a second language
  • Acculturation
  • Bilingualism
  • Child development
  • Speech-Language milestones that are culturally sensitive
  • Baseline and comparison population.
