Why should I attend a district PBIS training if we already implement Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) at a building level? Because research tells us it is effective in establishing effective learning environments. When implemented with fidelity at a systemic level, (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. By creating a districtwide system of support, we reduce the possibility of a building’s PBIS framework faltering or disappearing when there is a change in leadership, a focus on a new initiative, or fluctuations in students’ behavior.

This training offers a flipped model of instruction, where participants will complete learning modules independently and then attend virtual or in-person Community of Practice sessions to grow in district knowledge of monitoring and implementing district-wide PBIS frameworks. The sessions will be based on the nine sections of the District Systems Fidelity Inventory (DSFI). Like the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) at the building level, the DSFI enumerates specific steps to move the needle toward systematic district implementation of PBIS frameworks.

After the October 11 introductory meeting, participants will be asked to complete learning modules before each Community of Practice session or during the optional 45 minute – 1 hour work time allotted before the start time of each session. The modules will include short videos, articles, and each team member informally answering a small number of questions from the DSFI. Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, team members will be asked to meet and discuss areas of focus, as well as identify their short and long term action steps. After attending the series this year, participants will be asked to complete a formal DSFI by May of 2024.
