Online day plan reminders and education options
Any school or district that has adopted an online day plan may use up to three online days per school year. It is required that schools and districts adopt an online day plan each year by Aug. 1, although the plan’s use is not required. A school that implements a blended learning model or operates as an online school is not eligible to adopt an online day plan.
Blended learning model
Blended learning is the delivery of instruction using a combination of time in the school building (50% or more) and online and noncomputer-based learning opportunities. It is an instructional model that is used for the entire school year. Schools that have students in person all day every day do not use a blended learning model.
If a school is operated using a blended learning model or is to cease operating using a blended learning model, the superintendent of the school or district or director of the school shall notify the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce of that fact not later than the first day of July of the school year for which the change is effective. Declarations remain active until the school or district submits a blended learning declaration ceasing the model.
Please note that blended learning is not to be used on an emergency or contingent basis (including weather-related closures, staffing shortages, or professional development).
To verify whether a school has a blended learning declaration on file with the Department, contact onlinelearning@education.ohio.gov.
