New recruitment award supports schools in hiring service members, veterans, and military spouses

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is partnering with the Department of Veterans Services to introduce the Military Recruit award, which supports public school districts, community schools, independent STEM schools, and joint vocational school districts in their efforts to recruit eligible military individuals for employment in public schools.

The Department of Education and Workforce will offer financial reimbursements for districts or schools that provide hiring bonuses to military individuals who remain employed with the school for at least one year. The Department will also offer bonuses to districts or schools to support recruitment and hiring activities.

Award applications are now being accepted for Fiscal Year 2024 and Fiscal Year 2025 new hires. Applications are available on the Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program Recruiting Initiative webpage.

Email Ohiomvep@education.ohio.gov with questions or concerns regarding this award.

The Military Recruit award will be funded under Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025 via appropriations of House Bill 33 of the 135th General Assembly.
